Before director Nicolas Winding became a big name in Hollywood with Brosnan and Drive, he made his debut in 1996 with Danish crime drama Pusher, about a mid-level drug dealer whose life spins out of control after a drug deal goes bad, and he ends up owing alot of money to some very bad people. It went on to spawn two sequels, and Hindi remake. Now it's getting remade again, this time in English, with Luis Pietro at the helm, Grabbers' Richard Coyle in the lead role, and Refn himself taking executive producer duties.
While I have yet to see the original, Refn's involvement points to it not straying too far from the source material. The trailer promises a pretty intense piece of cinema, and I'm intrigued to see Coyle in a dramatic role, as I've only seen him do comedy in Grabbers and T.V.'s Coupling.
The film also stars Agyness Deyn, Bronson Webb, and Paul Kaye.
Released: 12th October 2012 (U.K./IRL)
