The U.S. remake of the Korean clut classic is getting ready to begin filming in Lousiana and New York very soon. In a recent interview lead actress Elizabeth Olsen talks about what fans can expect from Spike Lee's approach to Park Chan-wook's orginal 'Oldboy'.
"It's not trying to redo the film – it's coming at it from a different view," Olsen says, likening the two relationship between the two films to the Swedish Let the Right One In and the American Let Me In. "As well as focusing on the primary source of the Korean film, for our film there's also the Japanese Manga, so we're using the primary source of the illustrated novel, really. It's going to be a different story, just because, one, it takes place in a non-descript city in America, and, two, it's ten years later, so technology is different. It's practicalities that have had to change."
Spike Lee's cast also includes Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie is about an everyday man has only five days and limited resources to discover why he was imprisoned in a nondescript room for 15 years without any explanation. Anyone familiar with the orginal movie know its a bit of a hard pill to swallow. I haven't really been sure about a remake of the movie I don't see how they could pull it off half as well, but time will tell. No date has been set for release.
