Next year is a big year for horror remakes, with Carrie and The Evil Dead taking another bow on the big screen. While I've pretty much accepted the Carrie remake, The Evil Dead, with the originals being amongst my all time favourite movies, is a tougher sell for me. The main reason it has become a classic of the horror genre is Sam Raimi. This was his brain child, and he threw his all into it, crafting an insane story with a minuscule budget, putting his actors, especially his lucky charm Bruce Campbell, through hell, and pioneering some unique camera movements (he even created his own D.I.Y. camera rigs to achieve many of these). While he and Bruce Campbell are putting on their producer hats for Fede Alvarez's take on the concept, it will take alot to change my mind on this.
This first picture from the movie, which will be full on horror in the vein of the first film as opposed to the more comedic follow ups, is a step in the right direction, showing actress Jane Levy (t.v. show Suburgatory) as heroine Mia in full on Deadite make up. I really want to like this, so lets hope Alvarez can deliver.
