Well, this is a move that surprised just about everybody. When Matthew Vaughn declined the chance to direct the sequel to his own movie, Kick Ass, it was assumed the reason was so he could work on X-Men: Days Of Future Past, the follow up to First Class, his prequel to the X-Men franchise. Now, he's decided not to direct that movie either, instead moving onto the adaption of comic book, The Secret Service, a book he co-created with Kick Ass author Mark Millar, about a London hooligan drafted into the English secret service by his James Bond-like uncle.
The sequel, which adapts the famous story of a time traveling mutant hell bent on preventing a dark future, is set to begin production early next year, meaning the hunt is on for a director. A short list of director's is already in place, with the name on top of that list being none other than Bryan Singer, who got the ball rolling when he directed the first two X-Men movies. He worked closely with Vaughn on First Class, writing the story treatment and producing, and is a fantastic choice to replace Vaughn, having a great love and respect for the characters. This is a story I'm going to be following very, very closely, so when I hear more, you'll hear more.
