So Paranormal Activity 4 was released a couple of days ago, and while it was basically just like every other Paranormal Activity movie, the only difference being it had a 4 at the end of its title, it did well in its opening weekend in America, bring in $30 million on a $5 million budget. While considerably less than the previous sequels, it is enough to reheat the found footage formula again for another installment, to be released in time for Halloween next year. So far, this news is not filling me with any confidence that this one will learn from the previous sequel's mistakes.
But there's more. For those that stayed during the end credits of the fourth movie (which includes me, but that was an accident. I forgot my coat), you would have seen a scene set in a Mexican convenience store, shot in the familiar shaky cam style as the other movies. This was actually a teaser for a latino spin off of the series. Focusing on the same demon that has plagued people since the first movie, and to be partly filmed in Spanish, the still untitled film goes in front of the camera shortly, and is set for an early 2013 release date.
