With the upcoming Carrie and Evil Dead, remakes of classic horror movies seem to be a big thing in Hollywood at the moment. Now, Tobe Hooper's classic haunted house tale, Poltergeist, is the latest film to be put through the Hollywood Remake Machine, but, to all fans of the movie, don't grab you torches and pitchforks just yet. This one has quite alot going for it.
Originally signed on as producer, Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Spiderman) has been revealed as director, calming my fears that this is just some pointless cash grab. The man has a fantastic visual and directing style, and does his best work when he is creeping the hell out of people, so Poltergiest, with it's little girls trapped in televisions and Indian burial grounds, is the perfect fit for him. The script will be provided by Rise Of The Guardians screen writer David Lindsey-Abaire, who has already worked with Raimi on the upcoming Oz: The Great And Powerful.
Currently in development, there is no release date as of yet.
