It's Twilight Day on The Movie Bit!
Ironically enough, the tradition of vampires on the big screen seems timeless. With Twilight, the biggest (whether some people like it or not) vampire saga of recent memory, ending with Breaking Dawn Part 2, I think it's time to look at some of the more memorable creatures of the night to be captured on film.

Alice Cullen – The Twilight Saga
The Cullen clan are a pretty dour
bunch, so that makes the pixie haired bundle of energy stand out even
more. A character unlike any vampire before or since, it is the fact
that she is played completely against type that makes her memorable.
Severen – Near Dark
Kathryn Bigelow's little seen Near Dark
is a great, fun vampire flick, and Bill Paxton is a big part of that,
as the sociopathic Severen. It's clear the actor is having a lot of
fun in the role. He is such a larger than life character, shouting
out “finger lickin' good!!!” after one meal, and also one tough
hombre, able to rip through the cab of a truck even after being run
over by said truck.
Jane – The Twilight Saga
When I think of vampires I think dark
and brooding. I never once thought, “hmmm, Dakota Fanning would
make a good vampire”. Then, New Moon came out, and what do you
know? She does. Completely devoid of any emotion, the look on her
face when she uses her mental powers to inflict pain says all you
need to know.
The Reapers – Blade 2
Basically vampires on steroids, the
ravenous Reapers have pretty much none of the weakness' of normal
blood suckers, though that pesky sunlight still does a number on
them, and have a bone plate over their heart, making staking next to
impossible. They also seem to be half rabbit, reproducing at a
stunning rate. The design on them is fantastic, incorporating a hinge
like jaw, that contains a second mouth that would make an Alien
jealous.
Count Orlok – Nosferatu
The vampire that started it all. Even
though he's based on Count Dracula, he shares none of the traits we
have come to expect of that character, being pretty much a walking
corpse driven by a insatiable thirst for blood. Appearing on screen
in 1922, nine years before before Dracula, Orlok has been the main
influence for movie vampires, most recently Johnny Depp's portrayal
of Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows.
So there's my pick of movie vampires.
