Video game adaptions seem to be attracting some major talent lately, with Michael Fassbender to don the white hood for Assasssins Creed, and comic book movie uber-producer Avi Arad getting a Metal Gear Solid movie off the ground. Now tom Hardy is the latest talent to bring a pixelated property to the big screen. He has signed on to take the lead role of Sam Fisher, stealth expert extraordinaire, in the film adaption of Ubisoft's Splinter Cell series.
The game, endorsed by espionage writer Tom Clancy, casts the player as Fisher, a special operative of fictional black-ops group Echelon, who relied on stealth and subterfuge to get the job done. I love the games, but they did cause me to rage quit on more than one occasion. Stealth and subterfuge are not my strong suit. Hardy is a great choice, a great actor with a fantastic psychical presence, but I will be upset if Michael Ironside, who provided the voice work of Fisher for the games, is not involved.
