Johnny Depp is back in the news, his project-in-the-pipeline Mortimer Wintergreen has hired a screenwriter. Jack Thorne whose previous credits include This is England ‘86, the news follows hot on the heels that Pirates Of The Caribbean 5, Depp’s other long term project has also hired a writer, busy times for Mr. Depp it seems.
This project is based on the novel “The Magic Hat Of Mortimer Wintergreen”, it is yet to be confirmed if Depp himself will star but it seems likely, depending on timings and screenplay approval.
Warner Bros. have previously had a go at adapting the novel. Their draft had a conman trying to keep the super hat from falling into the hands of some unsavoury types. Returning the source novel, Thorne will be working from the original premise regarding the plot.
It's not Thorne's first outing in the movie business. His adaptation of Nick Hornby's A Long Way Down is due to arrive later this year with a cast including Rosamund Pike, Aaron Paul and Toni Collette.
