With Man Of Steel, Zack Snyder's reboot of the Superman franchise, fans are expecting some changes. We already got some, with Laurence Fishburne cast as Perry White, a character portrayed the same colour as his surname. But this could be one no one expected.
Jimmy Olsen has been a mainstay of the Superman mythos since pretty much the start. Sometimes referred to as Superman's Pal, the Daily Planet photographer has been played on the big screen by Marc McClure (Richard Donner's original film), and Sam Huntington (Superman Returns). His name has been curiously absent on the run up to the release of Man Of Steel, and we may have found the reason. On the the movie's IMDB page, actress Rebecca Buller is listed as Jenny Olsen, with no mention of Jimmy what so ever. So has the character's gender been changed for the movie? The most recent trailer seems to back this up, with a shot of Fishburne running from a collapsing building, possibly the Daily Planet, with Buller in tow, and a Daily Planet staff badge hanging from her neck. There has been no official word on this as of yet, but no doubt fanboy speculation will be through the roof.
