No matter how much of a balls up Jar Jar Binks may have been (and I didn’t think he was that bad) the world waits with baited breath, sleeping bags and gallons upon gallons of fan boy jizz for the arrival of Episode VII into cinemas. And while it’s early days we know that J.J. Abrams will direct, and that Carrie Fisher is on board. And now, so is Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill. Or to put it another way, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker are also on board. Well, maybe they’re on the flight deck. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Lucas was asked if members of the original Star Wars cast will appear in Episode VII to which he replied “We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ Realising he might have put his foot in it, the Star Wars creator went on saying “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Then he adds: “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”
To be honest, it’s a big whoop-de-do enough with Lucas announcing them, and who better to announce it really! After all, he is George Lucas! How Leia, Luke and Han will fit into Episode VII remains to be seen, but personally, I can’t really see Ford being happy with a miniscule cameo role. Not sure about Leia and Luke. Regardless, I’d hazard some serious money (If I had it) that Abrams will get the Falcon in the air again!!
