Fede Alverez's Evil Dead remake hits cinema's in April, with the originals director, Sam Raimi, in the producer's chair. But a piece of news was dropped over the weekend that points to Raimi returning to the original series, continuing on the story of his much loved horror/comedy after the events of the third film, Army Of Darkness. Doing the PR rounds for Oz The Great And Powerful in London, the director was presented with the inevitable Evil Dead question, which elicited the response, "I would love to do make Evil Dead 4. My Brother and I plan to work on the script this summer." Cue much cheers and heads exploding in excitement.
If this does go ahead, we could potentially have tow Evil Dead franchises running parallel to each other. At this stage, all we know is that he is writing it, but I would be surprised if the face of the franchise, Bruce Campbell, doesn't return for it. There will no doubt be armies of fans demanding it.

Update - Looks like we may have counted our Deadites before they ate our souls. In an interview with Bleeding Cool explained his feelings on the project, revealing that he felt pushed into saying what he did by the fans in the audience. He goes onto explain that right now he doesn't have the passion for it, that if he did go ahead and make Evil Dead 4 it would only be because he felt forced into it by the fans. This is a perfectly understandable position. If you don't have the passion for something, you don't pursue it. Simple as. The fans should understand that too. There is no point in getting a movie if the director doesn't invest himself fully in it. It's not to say that someday Evil Dead 4 will stoke the fire inside Raimi, but at the moment it is not high up on his list of priorities.
