Based on Xerxes, the upcoming graphic novel from Frank Miller, director Noam Murro takes us back to the highly stylised world Zack Snyder created for 300 with 300: Rise Of An Empire. Taking place around the same time of 300, it sheds more light on the Persian invasion of Greece, focusing on the Greek army, led by Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton), and its battles against Xerxes' (Rodrigo Santoro) second in command, and commander of the Persian navy, Artemsia (Eva Green). Murro teases something bigger with this sequel, saying:
"It is tied visually to the original, but owing to the sea battle, there is a whole different choreography of fighting and war. It happens over time in many different locations. The opportunities for six distinct battles are even greater with different locations and tactics."
The naval aspect of the movie is evident in our first look at the movie, and we also have a close up of Stapleton as the heroic Themistokles.
