He is a frequent collaborator with director James Gunn, having been in Slither and Super, so it was long rumoured that Michael Rooker would join the cast of Gunn's entry for Marvel Studio's cinematic universe, Guardians Of The Galaxy. The actor, best known as psychotic hillbilly Merle Dixon in t.v.'s The Walking Dead, will play Yondu, founding member of the Guardians in the comics original run from the 1960's, who has little to do with the modern incarnation, who debuted in 2008, which is the basis for the movie. It will be interesting to see how Gunn brings this book to life. It is a bit of a gamble on the part of Marvel Studios, being the most outlandish concept so far, but I have a feeling it will be pulled off.
Rooker will join other cast members Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and possibly Zoe Saldana, who is talks to play green skinned warrior Gamora, in a story which sees a human astronaut (Pratt) forced to team up with a group of alien fugitives after being transported to a far off galaxy.
