A cult classic, and one of the best action movie the 90's has to offer, Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break is the latest to be put through The Hollywood Remake Machine, as announced by Alcon Entertainment. This new version by will be helmed Ericson Core, who, before making his directing debut with Mark Wahlberg starring bio-pic Invincible (a movie I've never heard of till now), started out as cinematographer on The Fast And The Furious, which owes a lot to Point Break. The remake keeps the basic story of an FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring, but ditches the surf culture setting for the world of international extreme sports (I don't get this, as Point Break is in reference to a surfing term, and doesn't make sense in any other context). There is no word yet on who will take over from Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves as Bodhi and Johnny Utah, but with production slated for the end of the year, expect casting to kick into overdrive in the coming months.
