With probably the most interesting and unique premise for a horror movie yet, The Purge imagines a perfect future for America where crime and unemployment are almost non-existent. The reason: one night, every year, laws are thrown out, allowing the public to act out their deepest, most violent desires. When the intended victim of a group of killers is unwittingly taken in by a family who want nothing to do with The Purge, they come under attack, forcing the mother and father (Ethan Hawke and Lena Heady) to make a stand.
This is a great premise, and the trailer below promises some pretty tense stuff. The horror genre is slowly dragging itself out of the mire of ill advised remakes and torture porn, with The Purge promising another example of what the genre can offer when done right.
