Neill Blomkamp wowed everyone with his debut District 9, and while his follow up, Elysium, has yet to be released (9 of August in the U.S., the 23rd on this side of the world) , the South African film maker is busy preparing for his next movie, sci-fi comedy Chappie. An extension of Blomkamp's 2004 short film Tetra Vaal (which can be seen below), itself a fake ad for a robotic police, the film will see the director's frequent collaborator Sharlto Copely play one of the aforementioned robots patrolling the slums of South African, no doubt through the wonders of motion capture.
Word has reached us that he may be joined by Slumdog Millionaire's Dev Patel, who is currently in talks to take the human lead role. If he signs on the dotted line, he will play a young man living in the same slums Copely patrols. That's all we know at this stage, other story details are being kept under lock and key.
