For a time, Veronica Mars was one of the better shows on T.V., a smartly written noir detective story told through the lens of high school life. Cancelled far, far too early, fans of the show (affectionately known as Marshmallows by the cast) have been clamouring for a continuation of the show since 2007. Last March, they got their chance to show how much they wanted more Mars, when creator Rob Thomas floated The Veronica Mars Movie Project onto Kickstarter, since rights holders Warner Bros. were convinced there wasn't enough interest in a feature film of the show, looking for $2 million to fund a movie continuation of the young detectives story, with pretty much all of the original cast returning. And the fans answered, helping the project reach it's goal in under ten hour. By the end of the 30 day funding window, it had pocketed a staggering $5,702,153. So, there was enough interest there after all.
Filming began in June, and to show how progress is going Thomas, lead star Kristen Bell, and others from the movie brought the movie to Comic-Con with this video package featuring behind the scenes footage, and, beginning around the 3 minute mark, what constitutes as the first trailer for the movie, featuring a nice little catch up for those unfamiliar with the concept.
As a huge fan of the t.v. show, I can't wait for this, and I think theres enough there to get non-fans interested too. the movie is set for release next year, with no concrete date set yet.
