For the longest time now, Vin Diesel has been hinting that he will be in a upcoming movie from Marvel Studio's (even going as far as posting the above picture from his visit to to the Marvel Comics offices on his Facebook page) with speculation going into overdrive onto who he could be playing. Marvel have been keeping schtum on the role, even denying he had any part in their cinematic universe, but now Deadline are reporting his involvement has been made official, with the actor in talks to lend his vocal chords to Groot, the giant, sentient tree from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. The one role pretty much everybody guessed.
Diesel actually broke the news early, as he is want in doing, on his Facebook page, posting a picture of Groot, accompanied by the character's catchphrase, "I am Groot" (the only thing he can actually say, since most beings can't process his species language) a couple of days ago. This isn't the first time the actor has lent his gravelly voice to a monosyllabic animated character, having earned critical acclaim (as well as pulling quite a few heartstrings, mine included) as the voice of the titular character in The Iron Giant. I have a feeling it won't take long for this news to become official, and I can't think of anyone better for the character. He may only say three lines, but the way he delivers them vary depending on what he is trying to express, and really, can you think of anyone but Diesel's gruff voice coming from the voice of giant tree?
Guardians of the Galaxy is released on the 1st of August 2104.
