Originally set to hit the big screen on November 6th 2015, Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, which has the honour of kick starting Marvel Studio's Phase Three, will instead be coming to us four months early on July 31st. This seems like strategy on Marvel and Disney's part since it would have been opening the same day as Bond 24 in its old slot, and this new date will give at least give it a chance, but it still faces some competition with the new release date having it open two weeks after the Superman/Batman team up that is the Man of Steel sequel.
A long running, but little known in the main stream, Marvel Comics character, Ant-Man is a founding member of The Avengers, possessing the ability to change his size at will, along with a helmet that allows him to communicate with ants. Not much is known about the movie, other than it is based on the classic story To Steal an Ant-Man, which featured two people sharing the mantle: scientist Hank Pym, who first donned the costume and created the size changing equipment which gives him his power, and thief Scott Lang, who uses the Ant-Man suit to steal money to pay for his daughter's life saving operation. Lang would later go on to become Ant-Man full time. There has been no casting announcements about the project yet, but with production currently gearing up, we should be hearing something very soon.
