The sad news of Tom Clancy's passing came to us at the end of last week, but his legacy is still alive with the first trailer for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, based on the author's most famous characters, previously brought to the big screen by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, pulling double duty as the movie's villain Viktor Cherevin, this original story serves as a reboot for the character, charting his early days as a CIA analyst and his relationship with his mentor William Harper (Kevin Costner). The trailer shows off a much more action oriented take on the character, not really giving us a taste of political intrigue that made the likes of Patriot Games or The Sum of All Fears so entertaining, but I think there is enough here to pique peoples interest.
Synopsis: In a story taking place prior to the original Jack Ryan stories, Ryan is a young stock broker working for a billionaire in Moscow before joining the CIA. When the billionaire he is advising frames him for a terrorist plot and kidnaps his wife, Ryan must race against time to clear his name, stop the plot, and save his wife.
