The sexiest on screen villain – as voted for by you…
We all love a good baddie especially if they’re easy on the eye as well as being utterly dastardly in every way. Today’s villains no longer need to hatch plans of world domination in their secret volcanic island lairs. Modern baddies are far more human, accessible, sexy and still terrifying. And there’s not a Persian cat in sight.
So who exactly is the sexiest on-screen villain? It’s obviously a contentious issue, as out of the 500 people we surveyed nearly half couldn’t choose from our dastardly den of dreamboats.
Out of those who did respond, the results were unanimous…
Benedict Cumberbatch, Khan, Star Trek into Darkness: the winner
Hollywood’s love affair with British baddies seems to show no signs of waning as Benedict Cumberbatch landed the coveted villain’s role of Khan Noonien Singh in Star Trek into Darkness.
Benedict was also the clear winner in our poll with the highest vote of 12%. Critics thought he played the role of a genetically modified super-being hell bent on destroying the Enterprise with complete sincerity. And viewers obviously thought his ultra posh delivery and cryogenic manner was really rather appealing.
Tom Hiddleston, Loki, Thor and Alan Rickman, Hans Gruber, Die Hard: joint second
Second place in our poll were joint runners up Tom Hiddleston and Alan Rickman; both got 9.6% of the total votes. Hiddleston obviously stole a few hearts apart from the throne of Asgard when he played Loki in Thor. His portrayal of the constantly jealous, charming and slightly mad brother of Thor seems to have cemented his appeal as a villain with sex appeal. Tom also had the most votes from women voters with 14% of total votes – the highest over his evil rivals.
The immaculately groomed beard, the power suit, and even more powerful nasal drawl...Alan Rickman charmed, threatened and seduced in equal measure as Hans Gruber, the suspiciously British-sounding German terrorist in 1988’S Die Hard. Alan could quite possibly have created a blue print for subsequent British baddies in Hollywood. What’s more, he seems to have been quite popular with men who took the survey as he came up second most sexy after Benedict Cumberbatch with 10.7% of votes.
Rob James-Collier, Thomas, Downton Abbey: least sexy
His portrayal of Thomas the conniving Footman in the first series of Downton Abbey proved so popular that it saved Rob James-Collier from being written out of the show. But Thomas’s roving eyes and many misdemeanours around the Abbey don’t seem to have been enough to push him higher in our poll. He received a measly 4.8% of votes.
There have been some further late nominations (Rufus Sewell from A Knight’s Tale, in particular) but there are still plenty of sexy super villains out there who are currently plotting their revenge for being left off the list.
