Over the last couple of years we have been hearing bits and pieces about a sequel to James Cameron's epic Avatar, but up until now they always felt like rumours, and actually seeing the movie seemed very, very distant. But now we have got some concrete movement on the project with 20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment announcing that the sequel, and it's two subsequent follow-ups, will be shot in New Zealand, currently the home to Peter Jackson's Middle-Earth, and further posting the country's flourishing film industry. Production on Avatar 2 is set to begin next year, with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Stephen Lang, who stole the show as the villainous Colonel Quaritch in the original, all returning (though how Quaritch overcomes a pesky thing like death has yet to be revealed). Filming on all three sequel will take place back to back, with the release of the movies further taking a leaf from Peter Jackson's book: Avatar 2 is released in December of 2016, Avatar 3 in December 2017, and Avatar 4 seeing the light of day in December 2018.
