While Disney gained the rights to Star Wars thanks to their massive buy out of Lucasfilm last year, the rights to the company's other big franchise, Indiana Jones, entered something of a grey area. While Disney held the production rights, the marketing and distribution rights actually belonged to Paramount Picture due to them releasing the first four films. The future of the franchise has been up in the air since the buy out, but now both companies have reached an agreement, which sees all rights now belong to Disney, freeing them to make a new movie, with Paramount still retaining the distribution rights to the existing films in the franchise, as well as receiving financial participation on any future Indiana Jone movie. So Disney now Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars AND Indiana Jones. Talk about holding the monopoly.
A fifth Indiana Jones movie has be rumoured for a while now. Even though Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull wasn't the most well received, Harrison Ford has made it clear he is willing to don the fedora and crack the bull whip yet again (even at the ripe old age of 72). While it probably won't be for some time, with all of the legal problems out of the way, I have a feeling if everybody's favourite college professor/ adventurer will hit the big screen yet again.
