When Quentin Tarantino annouced his latest film would be another western, people were beyond excited. Understandable, since Django Unchained was one of his best films to date (narrowly being beaten by Gravity in this years Moviebit Movie of the Year poll), and showed the director had a real eye for the genre. Now, when Tarantino announces a movie, it's no guarantee he will go through with it, he seems to have a million projects running through his head at any one time. It's better to wait for a script, and Deadline are reporting a script for his latest western has indeed being written, under the working title The Hateful Eight.
Nothing much is known about the project, though, judging by the title, it would be safe to assume that the movie will be a take on The Magnificent Seven, much like Django Unchained took it's cue from the Djano movies from the 60's. It is also said Tarantino already has his eye on actors he wants to star, with the director wishing to work with Christoph Waltz for the third time. No surprise really, and since Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained earned the actor two Oscars, expect the same quality of turn again if Waltz signs on. The other actor in Tarantino's sights is Bruce Dern, currently earning massive praise and awards for his lead role in Nebraska. After years of distinguished supporting roles, the actor is hitting a bit of comeback at the age of 77, doing enough good work to put him on Tarantino's radar.
The Hateful Eight (I really hope they stick with that title) is only in it's early stages, so it will be a couple of months till we hear anything concrete about it. As soon as we hear something, you'll know it.
