Cork based production company Aclique Productions have always being friends to this site, and those who have being lucky enough to catch one of their yearly public screenings will know the bucket loads of talent they possess. Now, their work is getting a wider showing with their short film The Stranger, a Western shot entirely in Cork, being shown on RTE as part of its Shortscreen series.
Influenced by the works of Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood, The Stranger is a revenge tale (as director Jason Woodard puts it "70% of Westerns are revenge tales") concerning three bandits who run against the titular character, who has a score to settle with each of them. Bringing together local talent in front of and behind the camera, The Stranger is an immense achievement, a short that perfectly captures the look and feel of classic Westerns. A hell of thing, being shot entirely in Cork. And it may not be the last time Aclique Productions tackle the Western genre, with Woodard currently writing a treatment for a feature film based on the short. Watch this space.
The Stranger screen on RTE, as part of it's Shortscreen series, on Monday April 28th.
