We’ve been following George Lucas’ quest to build his Cultural Arts Museum for quite some time. The plan for the museum is to hold and display his significant art and movie memorabilia collection, which includes a phenomenal art collection and no shortage of props from Star Wars and plenty of other Lucasfilm and ILM projects. Including a scale model of the Millennium Falcon. From comic books to digital animation, the plans for what the museum would include are immense and fantastic.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is pushing hard for the museum and has been pursuing the project for quite some time now. He is expected to create a task force of community leaders to identify sites that may be suitable. Apparently Chicago will present a proposal to the Star Wars creator in the coming months. Lucas himself recently married Chicago investment executive Mellody Hobson and they live part time in the city.
The original plan was to build the museum in San Francisco in an urban national park known as the Presido. Unfortunately for Lucas the plans for the build were rejected. Wherever his museum goes, the tourism impact alone will be phenomenal.
