The penultimate entry in Marvel Studio's Phase 2, James Gunn's Guardian of the Galaxy hits cinemas on August 1st, and Marvel have released some new images from the highly anticipated, including some behind the scenes shots of Chris Pratt's Star Lord in action. These stills also give us a good look at Star Lord's mask, an accessory we've only seen as concept art shown at San Diego Comic Con 2012. Also in there is the mysterious orb that kicks off much of the action. I think most fans realise this is one of the Infinity Gems (which include the Tesseract from The Avengers, and the Aether from Thor: The Dark World), objects important to Thanos, the Marvel big bad who has been waiting in the wings since the mid-credits sequence from The Avengers. With Gunn going on record saying the Guardians are connected to Avengers 3, I think we are one step closer to seeing Infinity Gauntlet, the epic Marvel mini series, on the big screen.
Released: August 1st

An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
