Quentin Tarantino’s script from The Hateful Eight made quite an amount of headlines when it was leaked online, and subsequently Tarantino shelved the project and sued Gawker. Today a judge dismissed Quentin Tarantino’s claims that Gawker breached his copyright.Los Angeles District Court Judge John F. Walter ruled that the director’s lawyers didn’t demonstrate that anyone had actually seen the script as a result of the link on the website. Tarantino’s legal team has until the end of the month to refile with more substantial evidence.
That aside, Tarantino and a cast of the directors regular collaborators including Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth and James Parks did a read through at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. This was a one time only event, so don’t expect to see it coming to your town anytime soon. Quentin Tarantino did give some hope for the movie though, stating that he is writing a second draft and will follow on with a third draft. So, maybe the movie isn’t completely off the table just yet!
