Adapted from his own short story, novelist James Lehane (Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Gone) makes his debut as feature screen writer with The Drop, directed by Belgian director Michaël R. Roskam. It's fitting that Lehane's first big screen work coincides with James Gandolfini's last, the movie filmed before his death last year. A hard boiled crime drama, The Drop see's Tom Hardy as Bob, and ex-con and owner of bar in Brooklyn that serves as a money 'drop' for local gangsters. When the bar is robbed, Bob and his cousin, also the bars owner, Marv (Galdofini) find themselves under threat from the criminal underworld. Everybody seems on top form here, and this seems like the perfect high note for James Galdofini to go out on.
