Joss Whedon is currently up to his eye balls in evil robots, playboy billionaires and big green rage machines. However he did take the time to talk to Total Film about the Avengers Age Of Ultron which is currently shooting the in UK. Whedon is taking some influence from one of the greatest sequels of all time, The Godfather Part II.“The model I’m always trying to build from is The Godfather: Part II, where a ton has happened in between and it’s a very different movie, but you don’t need any information. You’re in the vernacular of the first movie and you’re ready to just pick up in this new place. It’s got a sci-fi element to it that’s stronger than the other film. And it’s a little bit darker. Getting the team together was so rousing, but keeping the team together is a completely different problem.”
He also confirmed that Black Widow will have a far larger role this time round ““Natasha is a huge part of the sequel. You want to concentrate on the people who don’t have their own franchises.” Which also confirms that Hulk will have a far greater role this time round and I’ve speculated in the past that Iron Man and Cap may have smaller roles, but surely that would be insanity to have the two biggest characters take a back seat. But trust in Joss we do!
Also Whedon also says that Don Cheadle’s War Machine will have a key role in the finale. Loki and Agent Coulson are NOT making an appearance although the director says that Clark Gregg’s Coulson is not expected to return to the big screen until Avengers 3. So do we take it that Coulson will not turn up in anything else until Avengers 3, which will probably be released in 2018? That’s along time to go without the glue that holds the Marvel movieverse together!
