While he may be best known for the creating of Jason Bourne, novelist Robert Ludlum had masterminded the creation of other characters, including former government agent and security Paul Janson. An adaption of the first novel in the Janson series, the Janson Directive (released posthumously, a year after the authors death) has been in the works for some time now, with Dwayne Johnson in negotiations to take the leading role. Now, through Twitter, the actor has confirmed that he has been cast in the role, with Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I, Robot) handling the script, which sees Janson on the run from the government after a rescue mission goes horribly wrong. This should be a more serious, Bourne-like action role for Johnson, which Universal obviously want to spin off into a franchise, which would be good for him going forward as he has proven he can excel when given something to sink his teeth into.
