SHARE:

To celebrate International Day of the Girl on the 11th of October, World Vision is bringing a special screening of Girl Rising to Dublin on October 2nd at the Mill Theatre, Dundrum.

Girl Rising was directed by Academy Award nominee Richard E. Robbins and is narrated by Liam Neeson, Cate Blanchett, Priyanka Chopra, Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys, Chloë Moretz, Freida Pinto, Meryl Streep, and Kerry Washington.

It is a ground-breaking critically acclaimed feature film that spotlights the stories of nine unforgettable girls born into unforgiving circumstances.

The film captures their dreams, their voices and their remarkable lives. It is also a movement dedicated to empowering and achieving educational equity for girls around the world.

"It's a powerful film that has the potential to inspire change in the world. If you're not moved, you're not breathing," said Alicia Keys.

'' It's a simple fact. There is nobody more vulnerable than a girl' 'said Liam Neeson.

"Watching girl rising, I haven't felt such a deep sadness and compassion since I was in the Asraq refugee camp in Jordan. These 9 girls show such courage, which inspires anyone who watches to not only appreciate where we come from but also to realise the importance of education. We can easily get caught up in our way of life, our hands are never too far away from our iPhones and lose touch with the fact there is still people that don't have the privilege of freedom or education. I hope everyone gets to watch this movie and it has a similar impact, we have the tools and choice to help, let's move!" said Roz Purcell (World Vision ambassador)

''My goodness, its mind blowing. What wonderful stories of the immense strength of the female race in the face of tragedy. An incredibly inspiring story which should be shown in schools all over the world. Education is our greatest weapon'' said actress Leigh Arnold

World Vision is proud and excited that two of their sponsored girls, Azmera and Ruksana, are featured in the film.

Azmera from Ethiopia and Ruksana from India are each sponsored through World Vision projects. Both of these girls have overcome different obstacles to pursue their right to an education and their stories are told beautifully through the film.

Heart-breaking and uplifting at the same time, you'll be inspired by their strength and hope for a brighter future.
