It's all go for Dwayne Johnson at the moment. Not long after he announced the start of a potential franchise with The Janson Directive, another possible series has fallen into his lap, with the announcement that he will be headlining the long in development big screen Baywatch reboot. Based on the 90's series best known for David Hasslehoff, slow-motion, and swims suits, the movie will see Sean Anders and John Morris take directing duties, after making their debut as a team with Horrible Bosses 2, working from a script by relative newcomer Justin Malen.
Previously, the project was said to have the shows original stars Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson in leading roles, but these plans seemed to have been scrapped for a new take of the material, which according to Johnson on Twitter, promises to be "edgy, raunchy, and hopefully, funny as hell." While before I may have dismissed a Baywatch movie, having The Rock onboard now puts the movie on my radar. He is a fantastic comedy talent, and the show and the concept is one ripe for parody. Also, Anders and Morris have a great track record for comedy, with their previous credits between them including work on Sex Drive, We're the Millers, and Hot Tub Time Machine, so this should be one to keep an eye on.
