Director Neil Blomkamp has become one of the strongest voices in science fiction today, with just District 9 and Elysium under his belt. His reputation is only set to grow with Chappie, which sees the director tackle the tale of an artificially intelligent robot (played by Sharlto Copley) taken in by two gangsters, in whose company he starts to grow and think for himself. The first trailer has debuted and I can't be the only one who gets a distinct of Short Circuit from this. Chappie's similarity to Johnny Five aside, this promises to be fantastic, with Blomkamp delivering something a lot more heartfelt than we expected when this sci-fi comedy was announced.
