Best known for the title role in Inside Llewyn Davis, and next seen in A Most Violent Year, Ex Machina, and a little something called Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, Oscar Isaac has signed on the dotted line to play the title villain in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse, set for release May 27th 2016. Teased at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Apocalypse is a villain fans have been waiting a long time to see on the big screen, an all powerful mutant (believed to be the first) who has a genocidal belief in survival of the fittest. Isaac beat out all comers, which apparently included Tom Hardy, to take the role, and, considering he's best known for smaller character driven movies, he's certainly an interesting choice which will no doubt be brought to life through motion capture.
Envisioned to round off a trilogy that started with X-Men: First Class, not much is known about the movie, but it has been said it will continue you on the timeline of the previous movies by being set in the 80's, and has been described as a 'disaster movie', promising Apocalypse will provide quite the threat for our mutant heroes. Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Hugh Jackman are all expected to return, while Singer is reportedly looking to recast younger versions of Cyclops and Jean Grey. With production set to begin in April, we'll no doubt hear something more concrete as the shooting date gets closer.
