The original Dumb and Dumber was downright hilarious with more than enough moments to make you choke on your popcorn. And now twenty years on, Harry and Lloyd are returning to the big screen and attempting to do it all over again.
The style of comedy that is provided here is slapstick meets gross out with more one liners than you’ll find in your average joke book. If that’s not your thing (and if you had a dislike for the original) then Dumb and Dumber To will make you hate the world and punch yourself in the head countless times. However, if you like the idea of a cat farting feathers, adult diaper changing and not to mention trucks and grandmothers getting fingered, then you’ll probably love this.
Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey) find themselves going on a roadtrip to meet Harry’s newly discovered daughter (who knew, right?) and find themselves in the middle of a plot to kill the aforementioned daughter's adopted father.
It’s all a bit too much to be honest and while it does what it says on the tin, Dumb and Dumber To is too dumb at times with a nonsensical plot and many pointless gags that neither deliver a laugh or a smile and only seemed crowbarred in for the sake of it.
Granted, there is so many gags, that audiences are never too far away from a decent one that will indeed made popcorn choking a distinct possibility.

While it’s great so see Harry and Lloyd back on the big screen, and their chemistry is instant (it’s like they shot this the day after they finished the original) they have lost so much of their charm and innocence that was so prevalent in the first movie. To be fair, Jeff Daniels still has that charm about him to a point, but as phenomenal as Carrey is here (and it’s great to see him back doing something like this) it’s like he’s forgotten Lloyd Christmas entirely and instead just seems to be bouncing (literally) from scene to scene in a way that’s more arrogant than innocent.
All that said though, there is still something that is so watchable about these two characters on screen. You can blame the original movie’s strong foundation for that and Dumb and Dumber To is just about watchable and has so many gags that at least a few of them will land.
It helps that the supporting cast are watchable also, complete with a toe sucking Laurie Holden and a rather brilliant Kathleen Turner. Tragically, as funny as Rob Riggle is here (complete with horrific hair style) he is sadly underused.
Fans of the original will be left disappointed due to the lack of charm here and the movie meanders something awful in places, but Dumb and Dumber To is genuinely alot dumber than the original movie, and that has to be a good thing.
Worth a watch...just.
