Details on Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot have been very thin on the ground, especially considering the movie drops on August 7th next year. But with production finished on the project, the hype machine is begin to rumble, and we have our confirmation of what the movie has in store for Mister Fantastic (Miles Teller), The Invisible Woman (Kate Mara), The Human Torch (Michael B. Jordan), and The Thing (Jamie Bell) in the form of the official synopsis, that confirms this big screen incarnation will be getting a new origin:
“The Fantastic Four,” a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
Anyone who has read the Ultimate Fantastic Four, part of a line of modern re-imagainings that has already formed the basis for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be familiar with this new origin, which ties their powers to the Negative Zone, an important part of the Fantastic Four mythos that hasn't been committed to the big screen before. The friend turned enemy is no doubt Doctor Doom (Toby Kebbell), but Tim Blake Nelson is also appearing as Harvey Eldarwho becomes The Mole Man, the very first villain the Fantastic Four faced, so a villain team up could be on the cards. It has been strange that we haven't seen anything form the movie yet, but I have a feeling that will all change in the coming weeks.
