The new year is always a hectic time for the second year students of St. John's Central College's Advanced T.V. and Film Production course, and the people of Cork will be familiar with seeing scores of film students around the city in the months of February and March, camera and other film related equipment in hand, as they go about completing their fifteen minute short film course requirement. As a graduate of this very course, I look back at this time fondly, but do not envy this years students, because as rewarding as they can be, they can be darn head wrecking too!
But this year, they are asking for your help, with four ambitious shorts, from a contemporary comedy to a sci-fi love story (with a western and dark fairy tale in between ), on this years slate. With the college providing the equipment, a lot more is needed for the students to fulfill their visions, so they have set up a Fund It campaign to raise €1,500 to be shared equally between the four films, with the end goal been to enter them into film festivals, both in Ireland and internationally. The closing date of the campaign is February 28th. It really is a worthy cause, and will help a new generation of film makers on their way to making some serious headway in their chosen careers.
