Adam Mckay, best known for his outrageous comedy sensibilities, may be gearing up to deliver a heavyweight drama for Paramount. The Big Short is based on a book by Michael Lewis and tells the story of a group of genius investors who figured out the property bubble was about to self implode and figured out a way to short the market prior to its collapse in 2008.
If all of that sounds like it might not translate to screen, bear in mind Lewis' previous books Moneyball and The Blind Side managed to do quite well for themselves after being adapted for the big screen.
Joining Adam McKay on the project is the kind of A-List cast the immediately screams Oscar glory come awards season. Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell and Marisa Tomei will be joining Melissa Leo for the film. Production is reportedly already underway in New Orleans.
The Big Short has just jumped to the top of the must-watch list for next year for a lot of discerning movie fans.
