His last few films has seen him stay on Earth, but Ridley Scott is heading to a far away world again (but not as far away as he is used to) with The Martian, based on Andy Weir’s 2012 novel about an astronaut (Matt Damon) stranded and left to fend for himself on the red planet after a storm sees the rest of his science team forced to abandon their mission of exploration. Empire have the first images from the movie, which show Damon’s Mark Watney in the middle of his hostile environment.
