If, like me, you were blown away by Mad Max; Fury Road (read our review right here) and were disappointed that the opening weekend box office might mean we wouldn't be getting more Max, then let director George Miller allay those fears.
In an interview with Jeff Goldsmith of The Q&A podcast, Miller revealed that he has a lot more planned for the road warrior and the world he inhabits. Miller s ready to move forward with a sequel, which will be titled Mad Max; The Wasteland.
"We've got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays on Fury Road and writing all the backstories, they just expanded."
As well as that brilliant bit of news, in an interview with The Daily Beast, Miller also had this interesting snippet of info for fans of the movie; Fury Road was originally supposed to happen a few years back, and Miller had someone very different than Tom Hardy lined up to play Max.
"Every time Heath Ledger would come through Sydney, he'd call in and we'd chat about Max. He had that same thing that Mel and Tom have - that maleness, charisma and restless energy which you need to play a relatively still character. The world lost someone great when he went. Tom was the next to walk through the door that had that vibe."
So there you have it; Mad Max;Fury Road could have had Ledger battling his way through an army of psychopaths in an apocalyptic future. What a movie that could have been.
