Telling the incredible story of West Cork native Dr. Aidan McCarthy, who survived some of the most harrowing episodes of World War II (including the bombing of Nagasaki), A Doctor’s Sword sees his family try to uncover the origins of the mysterious Japanese samurai sword that now resides in McCarthy’s Bar in Castletownbere. The documentary reaches Irish cinemas on August 7th, and the first trailer is here to give us a taste of what to expect.
Already garnering a tidal wave of praise after screening at the last year’s Cork Film Festival (where its popularity warranted a second screening) and this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, this promises to be an absolutely beautiful (that animation!!) and heartfelt retelling of real life events.
