While we can all agree that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to open HUGE when it finally takes its bow on December 18th, early estimates for its opening weekend, I think, surpass all expectations. As per Deadline, industry analysts are alerting predicting, bear in mind its still August, a mind blowing $615 million + global opening of for our return to a galaxy far, far away, meaning it might easily crush the record set by Jurassic World’s $524 million opening weekend gross. If this comes to pass, it’s a given that it would reach the billion dollar mark quicker that Colin Trevorrow’s rampaging dinosaur actioner. The only thing that could hamper it’s global domination is that China, a huge market everyone in Hollywood is desperate to tap into, doesn’t release Hollywood movies in December.
By no means is this sort of tracking an exact science, but it has proven itself more often than not (and that fact it will take over all of North America’s IMAX screens for a month doesn’t hurt). So, what are your thoughts? will JJ Abrams produce a global juggernaut that will make all the money? Sound off below.
