Speaking to Vulture, Murray revealed that the addition of McCarthy and Wiig had a lot to do with his decision, calling them “a great hope”. But it wasn’t a choice that came easily, with the actor saying, “I thought about it for a very long time. Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really … It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].” While Murray isn’t exactly needed for this reboot, his involvement does indeed generate a bit of goodwill towards the project that has had a tough time of it since its announcement. Speaking of his time on set, he seemed to have a blast,“You know, they were incredibly nice to ask me, and I really enjoyed being there. They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn’t want to overshadow [them] or anything, and I feel really good about it. I like those girls a lot. I mean, I really do. They are tough to say no to. And Paul is a real nice fellow.”
While we don’t know what his cameo entails, the popular rumour is that he’s a supernatural debunker that tries to prove the Ghostbusters are fakes. But, personally, I don’t care who he’s playing, I’m just glad he’s finally back to the ghost busting fold.
Ghostbusters comes our way July 22nd 2016.
