The saga of Assassin’s Creed’s journey from the console to the big screen has been a long one, at one point it was completely taken off 20th Century Fox’s release schedule, but the wait is nearly over as it goes in front of the camera this Monday, taking in Malta, London, and Spain. To mark the event, Yahoo! have our first look at producer/star Michael Fassbender decked out in his finest assassin’s garb as the movie’s hero, Callum Lynch. You’ll agree, he certainly looks the part.
Fans of the popular series should note that this isn’t a retelling of the events from the games and more of an expansion, telling new stories with new characters. That’s where Lynch comes in. A decedent of the secret Assassin’s society, he unlocks genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 25th Century Spain. Through this, he amasses skills and knowledge which he uses to take the fight to the oppressive Templar organisation in the present day.
Sure, video game adaptions are pretty much all miss and no hit, but with Fassbender and his MacBeth director Justin Kurzel involved, not to mention the rich mythology of the game series, this could change that.
Assassin’s Creed is set for release December 21st 2016.
