First Trailer For The 5th Wave

The Young Adult adaption train continues to chug along at a decent clip, and Chloe Grace Moretz is jumping on board with The 5th Wave, based on the best selling novel by Rick Yancy. Moretz plays Cassie, a teenager forced to fend for herself after four waves of increasingly deadly attacks by a mysterious alien force has left the world decimated. With fear and mistrust growing amongst the surviving humans, Cassie must save her younger brother as the invaders prepare for their fifth wave of attack which will exterminate humanity once and for all.

While The Host dropped the ball mixing the aline invasion flick with YA sensibilities, there is quite a bit to like about The 5th Wave, even though it does wheel out the dystopian angle all YA adaptions. It’s still only the first trailer, but keeping the aliens off screen and their motives secret has me intrigued. Sure, the final product could all go a bit generic (it does have the beginnings of a teenage romance nestled in there too), but this first trailer does a good job of selling the movie.
