First Trailer For Eddie Redmayne’s The Danish Girl

With his Oscar winning turn as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything under his belt, Eddie Redmayne is taking on another real life pioneer, and re-teaming with Les Miserables director Tom Hooper in the process, with The Danish Girl. The movie charts a remarkable love story inspired by the lives of Lili (Redmayne) and Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander), and how their marriage evolves as Lili takes her place as a transgender pioneer, and one of the first identifiable recipients of sex reassignment surgery.

With an Oscar friendly director, star, and subject matter in place, it wouldn't surprise anyone if The Danish Girl is near the front of next years race for the golden statue. But dismissing it as Oscar bait would do this movie a disservice, as it promises to be a genuinely moving and sensitive account of one person finding their place in the world, with both Redmayne and Vikander on top form.
