After working with Matthew McConaughey (and helping him net an Oscar) on Dallas Buyers Club and Reese Witherspoon on Wild, director Jean-Marc Valeé teams up with Jake Gyllenhaal for Demolition, the tale of a man (Gyllenhaal) who decides to destroy his old life and rebuild a new one after the death of his wife. With the drama set to open the Toronto International Film Festival later this month, the first trailer has come online giving us taste of what toe expect.
Both actor and director have been on a roll as of late, and while the tone may be a bit muddled (is it a heart felt drama or comedy? Sure, it can be both but the comedy seems to coming out on top here), there’s no denying that roll looks set to continue here. Gyllenhaal promises the same powerful performance that he delivered with Nightcrawler and Southpaw, and he should do well with a great supporting cast that includes Chris Cooper and Naomi Watts.
