So, besides that awesome behind the scenes video that my watching of always seems to coincide with me getting something in my eye, Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ panel at the years San Diego Comic-Con also gave away the identity of Domhnall Gleeson’s General Hux, a high ranking member of the First Order who operates out of the Starkiller base (named after the original name for Luke Skywalker in the first draft of George Lucas’ Star Wars script). Now, the databank on starwars.com has revealed more about the base and its fearsome destructive powers, and while it's quite the doozy, be aware that they could also be considered a spoiler for those wanting to revisit a galaxy far, far away totally fresh. Let this picture of scowling Domhnall Gleeson serve as your spoiler warning.
We have actually seen the Starkiller base before, in the brief t.v. spot that show off the entirety of the First Order’s force. Because, as the databank entry explains, the planet they’re standing on IS the base:
An ice planet converted into a stronghold of the First Order and armed with a fiercely destructive new weapon capable of destroying entire star systems.
Can destroy entire star systems, eh? Looks like that name ‘Starkiller’ isn’t an over exaggeration. This also seems to be carrying on the grand tradition of the Extended Universe of Star Wars books that seemed to introduce a new all powerful something or other every couple of novels. But really, it wouldn’t be Star Wars if there wasn’t some terrifying weapon for our heroes to contend with.
While this only reveals one small detail of the movie, this does seem like an important piece in the puzzle that is The Force Awakens. What do you think of this new revelation? Sound off in the comment section below.
